This past weekend, we found ourselves in Richmond, VA at the Hangover Classic. It was our first time at Richmond Fencing Club and we found them to be a wonderful host. Beautiful facility and good ole Southern hospitality.
Coach Bates tied for 3rd in the Senior Mixed Sabre event. He was taken out by Jacob Asch in the semi-finals in a very hard-fought bout. Congrats, Coach!
One of our students, Wills, holds an annual walk as a way to give back to the community. There are two ways you can get involved, and we hope you will choose one or both of them!
1. In the weeks leading up to the walk, Wills collects canned goods and non-perishable Thanksgiving items to benefit Loaves and Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank. We will be collecting these items at the gym and will deliver them to the walk on November 26th.
2. Walk! William's wall starts in the rear parking lot at Downer, Walters & Mitchener (701 East Morehead) and ends at the Doghouse (at the corner of Mint & Morehead). (It's approximately a 1-mile walk.)This a huge event and benefits so many in our community. It is obviously near and dear to Wills and Wills is near and dear to us. We hope you will join us in supporting this beautiful cause.
Congrats to Claire, River & Schuyler for their performances this weekend at the October 2014 KOS Tournament in Greenville!
Claire took 1st place in the Women's Open Sabre event and 2nd in the Mixed Sabre event, River placed Top 4 in the Y12 Mixed Sabre Event, and Schuyler also placed Top 4 in the Unrated Mixed Sabre event.
With the launch of our new website, we are running a concurrent Facebook contest. Our 300th 'like' is going to win a free beginner's class. That is a month of fencing up to twice a week for absolutely free - no equipment fee, no enrollment fee, nothing. So, please help us spread the word about our club and let people know to give us that thumbs-up!
Congrats to Kevin Hickey! Kevin donated the most canned goods to benefit our food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank. As a result of his efforts, Kevin will be rewarded by receiving the privilege of swapping places with Coach for 1 practice where Kevin will be the Coach and Coach will be the student. Thank you to all of our fencers who have done so much to help feed our those in need throughout our community!
